The modern emblem
It was confirmed in December, 22nd, 1998 by the decision #62 of city council session.
Vert; Mercury's staff and axe or in saltire. Around them are four stars or with eight rays. The shield is enframed by cartouche or and crowned by city crown gules.
The Mercury staff is symbol of the past of Berdychiv as one of basic trade centres. The axe points on city role as fortress, and also one of versions of city name origin ("berdysh" means "axe"). The or stars mean constancy, they point to significance of city for ukrainian, polish, russian and jewish cultures.
