Historians suggest that the settlement Birza was founded in XVIII century. In 1865 Birzula station became one of the first railroad stations in Ukraine, which began to provide movement and repair of locomotives in the North-West (Odesa-Kyiv) rail.
In 1928-1929 Birzula was the capital of the Moldavian ASSR within the Ukrainian SSR. In 1935 it was renamed in Kotovs'k. Since 2016 it has name Podil's'k.
