ЧЕРЧЕ

It was founded in 1493. As the city it is known since 1565. In 1578 it received Magdeburg Right. According to legend, there was a cave monastery, which was destroyed by the Mongols in 1240. Settlement got its name from the word "Chernche" ("chernets'" - "monk"). Since XV century there exists Church of St. Nicholas.
