TERNOPIL'S'KYI REGION

VELYKI BIRKY

It is located on both sides of the Gnizna river, it is known since March, 10th, 1410 when Podillya anr Terebovlya head Pjotr Vlodkovych has confirmed borders which separated this settlement from village Chernelev. Name Borky occurs from a word "bir" (pine forest), that means a pine wood.
On June, 15th, 1530 king Sigizmund I has granted the privilege on Magdeburg Right.
Obviously, first arms of city was a sign "Leliva" of Senyavs'kyis which have achieved the city status.
