NOVA PRAHA
The previous name of Nova Praha (New Prague) - Petrykivka - occurs from a surname of the settlement founder, Cossack Vasyl' Petryk, who has founded village in the middle of XVIII century on right bank of Beshka river, near the Sentry tomb. According to the legend, on this tomb was an alarm tower. On such towers watched patrol which burned fire when saw the enemies, informing the population about danger.
In 1817-1864 the city was a part of military settlements. In 1831 regiment from Petrykivka took part in the Polish campaign and attacked the Polish infantry near Praha (Prague), the suburb of Warsaw.
